Who We Are
We're a community of creatives. designers. individuals. mentors. teachers. students. thinkers. doers. makers. managers. marketers. entrepreneurs. writers.
Our Goals
To offer a quirky + healthy work space
that offers value to you, and is accessible for all who might require it. Diversity is richness.
To champion courageous ideas
by developing a culture of sharing, learning and shaping. Bringing down business barriers. Encouraging creativity and individuals' dreams.
To see authentic, human community
opening doors for people to explore all questions of faith and combat the isolation of solo working. Every person is valuable and needs a network they can tap in to.
More than just a place to work
The Host Space is a community of people working alongside each other. We started up in 2019 with a vision to be an alternative way of working. We all need a change of scenery sometimes. Or to have a real conversation.
We’re a not – for – profit coworking space that is committed to encouraging individuals in their endeavours.
- No micro-managers
- No washing up
- No profit-margin priorities here.
We want to hear your suggestions and what you need. Just let our space pioneers know what you think.
Coworking with spirit
Abi-Host Space Pioneer
Hey, I run The Host Space.
I am a business graduate entrepreneur and previously had my own ethical clothing company. I have produced a green-themed musical (with one of The Host Coworkers), that toured round Portsmouth and the South East. I am passionate about creating and encouraging businesses with a Kingdom culture. I love dreaming big, and making quirky ideas a reality.
I am here for you. Chat to me about anything-questions about faith, business, or if you just want a coffee. I am interruptible.
Sam -Video Game Producer - Coworker
I’ve had a strange and varied career up to this point, including time as a Film Critic, a TV Scriptwriter, an occasional Lecturer, and a trainee Pro Wrestler!
I love working at The Host, and I’m always happy to chat to my fellow co-workers about whatever strange things have caught my eye that day. You’ll probably get used to hearing me going off on one of my “This reminds me of the time…” stories. I really am a total Dad…
Nick - Software Developer - Coworker
Alex-Video Games Designer - Coworker
Hi, I’m Alex, I do a bit of everything; game development, writing, filmmaking, lecturing. I’ve found The Host to be a great community and a productive working environment. I had contemplated going to The Host for a while but wasn’t sure what to expect, but since my first visit I haven’t looked back – it has a wonderful vibe and atmospheric surroundings, and is full of great people doing a huge variety of inspiring work. Logistically, it has a great meeting space that’s easy to book, and all the coffee you could ask for.
Sue - Portsmouth Mediation Services -Coworker
I have worked for Portsmouth Mediation Services for 11 years and am extremely passionate about helping to make Portsmouth a Restorative City, a place where we have positive relationships and are equipped to deal with conflict in a healthy way. I also go into schools to present an after school programme called Teach Peace. We equip the youngsters to become the mediators in their classrooms and playgrounds and give them the soft skills to be role models in their schools, one by one, changing the culture of their society.
Ollie - Chef - Coworker
I’m Ollie and my background is in artisanal coffee and high end street food-Earth To Oven. I am now a chef in Chichester Taco Box. Delicious! But in my free time I come to The Host Space for a bit of peace, and to ask questions about life. I am also an environmental activist, musician and love being curious. I always find people with fascinating experiences and opinions in the space.
P.S I am friendly-come talk to me.
Phantom Brewery - Coworkers
Phantom Brewing Co is a friendly craft beer brewery based in Reading, Berkshire that makes the freshest beer, with the highest quality ingredients in the South!
You will often find owner Dane and his phantoms Paul and Matt playing board games in their break. They love the friendly welcome from Abi (what can I say), the calm and clean workspace and the creative and productive environment that has been created there. The Church has the perfect blend of facilities, comfort and tech support/reliability.
Bridgeway - Coworkers
Bryan and Maricar are Bridgeway workers. This is an organisation that helps facilitate a number of youth wellbeing and prevention initiatives. Including running a youth hub, sending trained volunteers to listen to young people’s concerns, being present at calm club and much more. They also take placement students.
P.S. Bryan always has a funny story to tell
The Portsmouth City of Sanctuary - Coworkers
We love The Portsmouth City of Sanctuary workers who volunteer and are based out of The Host Space. They also run a refugee and asylum-seeker hub on a Monday to provide case-work, English classes, food, hair cuts and connect people up with other necessary organisations in the city. They do an exceptional job and we love supporting them any way we can.
Charmaine- Author - Host Manager
Charmaine is an inspirational local writer of real and raw poetry. She is currently working on her second poetry book. In her spare time you might find her managing The Host Space, or walking in a National Trust when she can get away. She is friendly, makes a good cuppa and you should ask her about her Barbie poem.
Jen - Life Coach -Past Coworker
